This is the responds that I got from PetSolutions.  I’m a little disappointed cause they shipped the filter via UPS-Ground.  I would of expected them to upgrade the shipping to something quicker.  Its going to be another week before I can setup the filter.

Please accept our apologies.  We will make arrangements to have that unit picked up from you tomorrow.  Just package it back up in all of the original packaging material and leave it outside in the morning on Fri (tomorrow).  UPS will stop by sometime during the business day to pick it up.  You do not need to be there.  We will certainly get a replacement out for you today.

Thank you,
Sarah

Online Order Fail!

I received my PetSolutions order today and to my disappointment, the filter came damaged.  I understand that items do break during shipment; however, this case PetSolutions clearly ship me a damaged product.

Here is my email to PetSolutions:

Hi PetSolutions,

I received my order today (order number xxxxxxxxxx). The outer shipping box had no damage; however, the Eheim 2215 filter box inside was damaged. Upon observing the damage on the Eheim filter box, it is very clear that the Eheim filter was damaged PRIOR to shipment. This is very disappointing to know that PetSolutions clearly mailed me a damaged product.

I have attached some pictures of the Eheim 2215 that I received:

filter_box.jpg – from this picture you can clearly tell that the box was damaged prior to opening. Again based on the level of damage on the Eheim filter box and NO damage on the shipping box, it is very CLEAR that this unit was damaged prior to shipping

filter_cover.jpg – this is the cover of the Eheim filter and as you can see it is cracked at the joints. Every joint on the cover has a crack as seen in the attached photo.

filter_unit.jpg – in this picture you can see two plastic pieces sitting on top of the motor. These two plastic pieces were supposed to be attached to the unit. You can tell in the picture where those two plastic pieces broke off from.

Again, I understand items do break during shipment but this unit was clearly damaged prior to shipping. I’m not sure what type of quality control you have there, but this is unacceptable.

I would greatly appreciate it if you would quickly resolve this issue.

Thanks in advance,

I will update once I hear back from PetSolutions

Three weekends in a row

For the third weekend in a row, I found myself at AFA again.  I think by now, everyone at the store probably knows me.  I’m sure they are thinking $$ every time they see me walk through the door 🙂

This is what I walked out with:  (I decided to go ADA all the way)

Power Sand Special:

ADA Lily Pipe Inlet V3:

ADA Lily Pipe Outlet P2:

ADA Pollen Glass III: (I decided to return the Do!Aqua one and get the ADA one)

ADA Spring Washer: (I probably could of skip this one, but at this point…. what the heck)

Tourmaline BC:

ADA Bee Shrimp food:

Total:

I have spent well over $1k so far and there isn’t even water in the tank yet 🙂  I think I have gone a bit over board with all the ADA stuff, but at the same time I didn’t want to get the knock off brand.  I can get some off brand lily pipes on ebay for $50 vs. $175, but at the end of the day I know I won’t be happy with that.

I can’t wait to get this tank started.  I filter will be here on Wednesday, so that will the earliest I can start.  Still boiling the driftwood for a couple hours a day and I think I’m still a week off from the wood not coloring the water.  Currently I’m still debating if I want to try this method call “Dry Start”.  It is where you plant the plants in the dry soil and water the soil like you normally would with house plants.  This method supposedly help with the initial plant growth and removes any algae explosion during the initial cycle.   However, some said that it is not good for tanks that have slopes in the aquascaping (which I will have).  Anyways, it is still something that I’m debating.

I will end with a picture of the tank with all the ADA goodies inside:

Almost ready…

I finally order the filter today.  After doing lots of comparison between 205, G3, 2215, 2217, and ES-600, I finally went with the 2215.  G3 was the clear winner, but the flow is just way too strong for the 60-P.  I using the 304 on another tank but I decided to give the 2215 a try base on the overwhelming recommendation on plantedtank.net.   My friend however, switched from eheim to fluval so hopefully I’m not making a mistake here.  I’m hoping one day I will have another tank big enough for the G3 or even G4 (not to mention the next release will have the heater module option)

Here is my latest damage from petsolution:

Eheim 2215, Small Mag-Float, and Digital Thermometer

I also started the boiling and soaking of the driftwood

my wife absolutely hates it when I do this (especially with her nice pot)

Thanks to all who voted for their favorite landscape.  The obvious winning is #2, which happens to be the hardest one 🙂 (go figure).  After doing more research on that particular setup, it will be very difficult to duplicate that inside my much smaller tank.  As I was looking through the driftwoods and rocks at AFA (with the help of the employees), I was able to gather parts to create a simpler version of the tree branch look.

Here is my latest and current goal for the tank: (picture taken from here)

I know it is much “simpler” but considering this is my first attempt at an iwagumi setup, I want to make sure I can succeed!

I also want to take this time to give thanks to plantedtank.net, rexgrigg.com, AGA, AFA, and youtube for all the information and inspiring photos.  Also, special thanks to my wife who encouraged me to start this project and not rushing me at the AFA store 🙂

p.s. I think I finally decided on the filter, Ehiem 2215.  Now I just have to order it so I can start on my tank.
